Northumbria Police has established this process, into which individuals considered to be dangerous in terms of public protection, who do not qualify for inclusion in MAPPA (e.g. the individual does not have a conviction or does not have a ‘relevant’ conviction), can be referred.
Referrals into Potentially Dangerous Persons (PDP)
The Responsible Person/Safeguarding Lead (or member of staff under their direction) should, as part of the safeguarding process, consider whether there is a need to make a referral to Potentially Dangerous Persons. Referrals can be made using the MAPPA referral form and sent by secure email to Northumbria Police MAPPA Unit.
It may be the case that an alleged perpetrator in the safeguarding process is also part of the MAPPA or PDP process. If this is the case, it is imperative that the Responsible Person/Safeguarding Lead or staff member liaises with the MAPPA Coordinator in terms of sharing information and to ensure the effective coordination of the two processes.
